Henderson, NV – Last Friday night, AYR Wellness Dispensary workers in Henderson, Nevada voted to join the United Food and Commercial Workers Local 711 in order to have a voice on the job.
This is the third Ayr Wellness dispensary in Nevada to unionize with UFCW Local 711 and is part of a wave of cannabis organizing victories by UFCW Local 711 in the past few months. Last October, both Reno Green Thumb Industries and Las Vegas Ayr Wellness cannabis workers voted to join UFCW Local 711.
As America’s largest cannabis union, the UFCW has spent over a decade in this emerging industry, advocating for workers and fighting to establish critical labor protections to ensure that, as the industry grows, cannabis industry jobs are safe, equitable, and family sustaining.
Ayr Wellness worker, Taylor Vivian, who was part of the organizing process, said the following:
“I am so glad to be joining our fellow union stores by becoming the third Ayr Wellness location in Nevada to unionize. As this industry develops across more and more states around the country, I am happy to join the movement of workers that demonstrates just how powerful cannabis workers can be when we stand together and fight for a seat at the table.
“A dispensary job can, and should be, a career-sustaining role where workers feel respected and our hard work is rewarded. We are excited to finally be able to negotiate a contract that truly reflects the value we put into this store every day to make Ayr the successful dispensary that it is.”
