WASHINGTON, DC – Today, the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union (UFCW), which represents 1.3 million workers in grocery stores, meatpacking plants, and other essential industries across North America, released the following statement regarding footage from the deadly police beating of Tyre Nichols in Memphis, TN.
UFCW International President Marc Perrone released the following statement:
“The videos released today of the deadly police beating of Tyre Nichols in Memphis are shocking, disgusting, and should outrage every American.
“For too long we have seen those entrusted to protect us use vicious force, and this is another horrific example that we must witness. This madness must end. The death of Tyre Nichols was an act of brutal violence. Not only should the police officers be held accountable, it must serve as the final wakeup call that our policing must change before another life is lost.
“Words alone cannot do justice or provide enough sympathy to the family of Tyre Nichols who must live with the loss and pain of this evil and senseless act.”
