WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union (UFCW), which represents 1.2 million essential workers across North America, including nursing home, assisted living, and health care industry workers, released a statement following the Biden administration’s announcement of their final nursing home staffing rule.
UFCW International President Marc Perrone released the following statement:
“This landmark rule will finally hold nursing homes to a higher level of care, forcing companies to provide staffing based on the needs of their residents, not on the needs of their bottom line.
“While the UFCW applauds the Biden administration for going above and beyond what the current law requires and setting a higher standard for staffing, this rule still falls short of what workers and their patients actually need.
“The UFCW remains committed to fighting for the countless workers who have asked for a rule that increases transparency and safety in order to fully protect themselves and the loved ones they care for.”
Last fall, the UFCW submitted public comment on the proposed rule, providing recommendations to strengthen the rule with worker testimonials that showcased the real life impact this rule will have.
