Delaware Online – Gov. Jack Markell should open three medical marijuana distribution centers around the state as called for under a 2011 state law, says the Marijuana Policy Project, a group that lobbies for the loosening of state marijuana laws. Markell in August announced that he would move forward with implementation of Delaware’s medical marijuana law after a two-year delay because of concerns that the federal government could prosecute regulators for violating federal drug laws. Regulations governing the program were published in October. The federal government has loosened its policy on marijuana prosecution since Markell’s announcement, but the governor has committed to opening one distribution center in the state next year – not one in each county as called for in the 2011 law. Proposed regulations also limit the amount of pot the center could cultivate and keep on site.
