You deserve wages that give you financial stability, allow you to support a family, and build a better life. Together, UFCW and our members can raise wages for every worker.
Fact: Union workers earn higher wages and receive better benefits.
Did you know that on average, a worker covered by a union contract earns 13.5 percent more in wages than a peer with similar education, occupation, and experience in a non-unionized workplace in the same industry? Along with the “union wage premium,” union workers are much more likely to receive affordable health care benefits, access to retirement plans with higher employer contributions, and a higher number of paid and sick leave days. (EPI, 2023)
Where union power is stronger, all workers benefit.
Our fight for sustainable wages and benefits doesn’t just help union workers, it has a powerful impact on all workers. Americans living in the 17 states with the highest union densities are guaranteed a 40 percent higher minimum wage than workers in low-density union states. They also have higher median incomes, unemployment benefits, and stronger legal protections in their workplaces. (EPI, 2021)
– Joseph Pacacha, UFCW Local 23“Thanks to my union family, I earn wages and benefits I never could have negotiated on my own. I’m proud of the fact that thanks to the UFCW, my family does better than just get by. We are living a good life.”
The UFCW continues to fight for better wages for all Americans, including a higher federal minimum wage that keeps up with inflation. The UFCW also supports the Paycheck Fairness Act, which will make it harder for employers to get away with pay discrimination and reward good actors that prioritize equitable pay practices.
