On Nov. 7, workers at The Convalarium of Dublin nursing home in Dublin, Ohio, joined UFCW Local 1059. These workers are employed as registered and licensed practical nurses; state tested nursing assistants; respiratory therapists; dietary, housekeeping and laundry aides; cooks; and in the maintenance division.
The workers joined UFCW Local 1059 because they were concerned about erratic scheduling and pay inaccuracies. They were also concerned about unequal pay for new hires and management’s practice of targeting certain employees.
After the workers reached out to the local about forming a union, UFCW Local 1059 organizers scheduled home calls and took proactive steps to address their questions about the benefits of union membership.
“We’re excited to welcome the staff at The Convalarium of Dublin into our union family,” said UFCW Local 1059 President Randy Quickel. “These workers do so much to protect and care for our families, and they deserve to be protected and supported on the job.”
