On Feb. 8, meat, seafood and deli workers at a Safeway store in Denver joined UFCW Local 7 for the better wages and benefits that come with a union contract.
The 17 workers joined our union family via a card check election because they wanted a voice in the workplace and the same wages and benefits as their unionized colleagues at the store. Because of existing contract language pertaining to organizing, the local was able to obtain a neutrality agreement from the employer and the new members of UFCW Local 7 have been added into the current contract. The entire unit in Safeway store #839 is now comprised of 69 workers and the store is now wall-to-wall union.
“When workers recognize their true value and recognize their own solidarity, they win! We are honored to have the privilege to represent essential heroes,” said UFCW Local 7 President Kim Cordova.
