Workers at the Health for Life cannabis dispensary in White Marsh, Md., recently voted to join UFCW Local 27.
The courageous decision to unionize stems from the workers’ collective pursuit of fairness, respect, and dignity in the workplace, as well as their desire for better wages, improved benefits, and a chance at a better life. The unionization effort at Health for Life in White Marsh encompasses 23 cannabis budtenders and leads.
“Local 27 is built on the foundation of providing a better life for workers,” said UFCW Local 27 President Jason Chorpenning. “We fight every day for workers on the front line, and we applaud the workers at Health for Life for their courage to stand up against these millionaires and make a better life for themselves.”
Following the decisive vote, UFCW Local 27 promptly notified Health for Life CEO Richie Proud of their readiness to commence bargaining for a fair contract.
In addition to the Health for Life cannabis dispensary unit in White Marsh, UFCW Local 27 recently organized workers at another Health for Life dispensary in Baltimore. UFCW Local 27 also represents other Maryland cannabis workers at the Zen Leaf dispensary in Towson and PharmaCann Verilife dispensary in Westminster.
