Grocery Workers in Pennsylvania Ratify a New Contract

October 17, 2024

On Sept. 16, members of UFCW Local 1776KS who work at the Holiday Park Shop ‘n Save in Pittsburgh ratified a new contract that strengthens wages and benefits.

The three-year contract includes the following provisions:

  • Wage increases.
  • Reduced years of service required to earn additional personal holidays.
  • Increased premiums for night crew, manager replacement, leads, office clerks, cake decorators, and deli clerks.
  • Higher pay rates for apprentice meat cutters.
  • Maintained health benefits with no cost to members.
  • New benefits for customer service clerks, including bereavement leave, two weeks of vacation, and annual wage increases.

“After 30 years, there is good rapport between management and the union, and they usually understand what we want,” said Michelle Hursen, who is a Holiday Park Shop ‘n Save steward and Bargaining Committee member. “It didn’t take long to come to an agreement, and we’re pleased with the outcome. We received good raises, but more importantly, there was no change to our benefits. We have the absolute ‘Cadillac’ of benefits.”
