On Sept. 11, members of UFCW Local 75 who work at the Sunnyside medical marijuana dispensary in Cincinnati ratified a first union contract that raises wages and improves benefits. The 25 workers, who provide consultation and advice to patients on various medications and process patients through to point of sale, joined our union family in February because they were concerned about favoritism, and wanted fair and consistent scheduling and a voice in the workplace.
The three-year contract addresses those issues and includes guaranteed wage increases, protections for scheduling, and secures an employee discount. The contract also includes improvements in paid time off, bereavement leave, a grievance and arbitration procedure for resolving disputes and enforcing the contract, time limits for issuing disciplines, and a true voice on the job.
“UFCW 75 looks forward to continuing to support the workers at Sunnyside Cincinnati and across the industry by providing job guarantees and protections to workers in this rapidly growing industry,” said UFCW Local 75 President Kevin Garvey. “It is UFCW 75’s goal to have this contract serve as a model for sustaining unionizing efforts by building stronger communities with stronger jobs for all workers in this emerging industry.”
