That’s why we’re organizing our stores, joining our voices together, and negotiating with the company to improve our working conditions.

And, through our organizing, we’ve even raised the bar for all Lush employees. The company introduced nationwide increases this year, which were undoubtedly the result of us unionizing at our stores.

The Lush Union So Far

Right now we’ve unionized and negotiated first contracts at Lush stores in Kentucky, and our union movement has already expanded now to Texas as well. In these contracts, we’ve won better wages, fairer discipline rules, paid time off, predictable scheduling policies, and much more. 

This is such a strong foundation, and we’re only getting started. The more Lush workers who come to us and share their ideas for a better company, the more power we have to inspire change across our stores! 

Why We’re Unionizing at Lush

In order to do our best work at Lush, we need to make sure we have some key protections and policies in place. With our union, we’re fighting for improvements like:

Balanced schedules and guaranteed minimum hours

Good wages are only as good as the hours we get to earn them. We need to make sure we’re paid well and get enough hours for those wages to count – especially during holidays. We also deserve consistency and predictability in our schedules so we can live balanced lives.

Clear job descriptions and responsibilities

We deserve to have consistent expectations from our management, and we shouldn’t have to deal with any kind of favoritism in our stores. Having a union at Lush can help us ensure clear communication channels, along with fair opportunities for everyone in our stores.

Living Wages

Our expertise helps make Lush profitable, and we deserve fair wages for all the value we bring to the company. With the cost of living on the rise, we shouldn’t be earning any less than it takes to live a balanced life in the communities we call home.

Better vacation and paid time off

Retail work is incredibly demanding, and we all deserve the chance to take time off and recharge our batteries when we’re feeling burned out. That’s why we’re fighting for better vacation policies and PTO with our union! 

Protection from retaliation and unfair punishment

We shouldn’t have to face unfair punishment or retaliation on the job, and having a union will help us enact fair discipline procedures across the company. With our union, we can fight for transparency in the way that discipline is handled in our stores.

Comprehensive Medical Coverage and Wellness / Sick Leave

We all get sick from time to time, so we shouldn’t have to worry about missing a paycheck or fronting big medical bills when we need to take care of ourselves. That’s why we’re fighting for robust sick leave and comprehensive medical coverage – all written into a union contract.

Lush Union News Updates

August 10th, 2024 via UFCW: “On August 10, members of UFCW Local 227 who work at the Lush Cosmetics stores in Louisville and Lexington, KY ratified their first union contract. The workers at the Louisville store became the first Lush Cosmetics unit in the U.S. to unionize when they joined UFCW Local 227 last April. The workers at the Lexington store voted to join our union a few months later.”
