Senior Benefits Assistant

Location: Washington DC, near Metro (on-site)

Duration: Full-time position; posting closes when position is filled.

Position Description

The Senior Benefits Assistant is responsible for various functions in the day-to-day processing of the UFCW Savings and Retirement Plans and the UFCW Canadian Annuity Plan.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Posts bimonthly contributions for participating local unions and biweekly contributions for the International Savings and Retirement Plans.
  • Processes payment requests and monthly reports for UFCW Canadian Annuity Plan participants.
  • Notifies local unions and the Accounting Department of payroll changes associated with pre-tax election changes, loan repayment withholdings and loan payoffs for the Savings and Retirement Plans.
  • Notifies Fidelity Investments of address changes for the Savings and Retirement Plans.
  • Communicates with Fidelity Investments regarding data interchanges on the Savings and Retirement Plans.
  • Assists with yearly audit of the Savings and Retirement Plans.
  • Assists and prepares with yearly non-discrimination testing.
  • Maintains employee confidence and protects operations by keeping data strictly confidential, including, but not limited to, the privacy provisions of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).

Education and/or Experience

Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal direct supervision.

Keyboarding Skills

Input speed of 40 words per minute.

Computer/Software Skills

Ability to organize and prepare documents requiring the integration of office technology and software, including word processing applications.  Note: Computer applications are in a Windows environment.  Experience in or aptitude for working in a database systems environment.  Proficiency in spreadsheet software is required.  Working knowledge of word processing software.

Communication Skills

Demonstrated oral and written communications skills.

Other Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Required

Ability to establish and regularly maintain participant files in an erratic, fast-paced environment with frequent deadlines.

Demonstrated mathematical and analytical ability.

Job Demands

Must maintain employee confidence and protect operations by keeping data strictly confidential, including, but not limited to, the privacy provisions of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).

Working Conditions

The work is performed in a normal office environment.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Physical Demands

The position involves, but is not limited to, written and oral communications skills, use of computer keyboard, close vision, sitting for long periods, stooping, bending and reaching.

Compensation

Salary Range: $54,290 – $59,887
