Assistant Director of Field Support

Location: Harmarville, PA

Duration: Full-time position; posting closes when position is filled.

Position Description

Responsible for new development strategies, design and maintenance of software applications. Strong adherence to software development standards. Creative, resourceful and the ability to think outside of the box a must. The incumbent must be able to work with minimal supervision, supervise LUMM support staff and exercise independent judgment in the prioritization of their responsibilities and their work within the organization.

Duties and Responsibilities

Includes the following. Other duties may be assigned. This list is not exhaustive and may be supplemented.

  • Assists the Director of Field Support in overseeing the development of applications. Highly involved in the day-to-day development of web-based applications.
  • Oversees and directs the workflow of the LUMM support staff.
  • Works closely with internal and external (vendors) development teams to produce required software solutions.
  • Extensive collaboration with outside entities, including Local Unions, should be expected.
  • Conducts and reviews training of Staff and User base both internal and Local Unions.
  • Follows departmental standards and assists in preparing and updating documentation both written and visual for both internal and external Local Union staff.
  • Works with internal and external Local Union staff and vendors to create/design and maintain software.
  • Creates end user reports using various report writers and services.
  • Participation in continuous learning is a must.

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Computer Science, or equivalent, and experience with database management software and GUI development packages

A minimum of 2 years’ experience writing web applications, preferably using a modern development tool.

Extensive experience in frameworks – C# .Net, Node.js and JavaScript based applications. A strong background with Microsoft SQL Server. 

Experience using all Microsoft Office applications. Demonstrates an aptitude in technical management, project management and problem management skills required.  A proven ability to work with a diversified user community and professionally handle sensitive and/or difficult situations.

Communication Skills

Must have demonstrated ability to comprehend technical manuals.

Must have demonstrated ability to present technical information and respond to questions from users in lay-terms.

Must show an ability to interact positively with individuals and groups who are at various levels of computer literacy.

Must interact positively with outside vendors. Strong written and oral communications skills are required, including advanced writing skills to prepare technical guides and documentation.

Other Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Required

Excellent interpersonal skills particularly while assisting users or dealing with vendors.

Ability to work under time pressure and to juggle multiple priorities.

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. 

Ability to work with limited or no supervision.

Ability to successfully supervise others is required.

Job Demands

Work may be fast paced and intense with multiple priorities. Travel is required.

Working Conditions

The work is performed in a normal office environment.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Physical Demands This position involves, but is not limited to, written and oral communications skills, use of computer keyboard, close vision, sitting and standing for long periods, stooping, bending and reaching.
