Who We Are

The United Food and Commercial Workers International Union (UFCW) is a labor union that represents 1.2 million hard-working men and women in the U.S. and Canada. We are a 501(c)(5) nonprofit organization that believes in the power of ordinary people coming together to improve their lives and make a lasting difference for all working people.

Why UFCW?

As the largest private sector labor organization, we are looking for candidates to join our team who will bring innovative methods and cutting edge ideas to help grow our diverse membership base, support workers’ rights and brand the UFCW as the union for workers in the grocery, retail, packing and processing, health care, cannabis and winery and distillery industries. The UFCW is headquartered in downtown Washington, D.C. but staff work closely with local unions to organize and support our members across the U.S. and Canada.

Open Positions

Accounting Clerk I

The Accounting Clerk I is responsible for executing accounting clerical duties that include filing, data entry, and routine reconciliation and analyses for the Accounting Department.


Assistant Director Occupational Safety and Health Office

The Assistant Director provides support to the Director to carry out the safety and health operations of the OSH office. The OSH office collaborates with UFCW Departments and Divisions to integrate workplace safety and health into the work they do with an emphasis on UFCW-growth related activities.


Assistant General Counsel

UFCW is seeking an attorney with 5 to 15 years of experience in labor and employment law to work as an Assistant General Counsel in its Legal Department.

Campaign Communications Specialist

The Campaign Communications Specialist aids with communications initiatives  that support the UFCW — including but not limited to organizing, bargaining, and political campaigns. This role will be tasked with maintaining UFCW’s brand, voice, and message in written and digital material created for various audiences.


General Organizer – Cannabis Program

Organizers will be trained to probe worksites and establish workplace union organizing for UFCW’s Cannabis program. Key job responsibilities include: engaging non-union workers in organizing campaigns, identifying workplace issues, developing worker committees, working with Union staff and community organizations, and conducting home calls.


General Organizer – Digital Department

The General Organizer encourages union membership to non-union workers by providing information on union benefits and employees rights, to achieve a collective bargaining agreement, and may remain in contact with members through servicing programs.


Human Resources Administrator

The Human Resources Administrator assists the Director in daily administration of human resources policies, procedures and systems.  Perform a large volume of administrative duties pertaining to new and existing employees.  Provides assistance on projects or programs as assigned by the Director.


Human Resources Generalist

The Human Resources Generalist assists the Director and Assistant to the Director in daily administration of human resources policies, procedures and systems.  Performs a large volume of administrative duties pertaining to new and existing employees.  Provides assistance on projects or programs as assigned by the Director or their designee.


Occupational Safety and Health Specialist

The Occupational Safety and Health Specialist responds to requests from UFCW local unions in UFCW core industries, meatpacking, poultry, food processing and retail, as well as health care, for assistance on a variety of occupational safety and health issues. 


Records Manager

Coordinates and maintains the UFCW’s Authorized Records Retention Schedule, which promotes compliance with record retention laws and regulations, facilitates the litigation discovery process when needed, protects proprietary and other organization information and increases organizational effectiveness through better record-keeping and retrieval best practices.


Senior Political Coordinator

The Senior Political Coordinator, in coordination with local unions, is responsible for building out electoral, legislative, fundraising and activist programs under the direction of the Director.
