On Sept. 3, budtenders and inventory workers at The Healing Side, a cannabis microbusiness in Atlantic City, N.J., joined UFCW Local 152.
The workers contacted UFCW Local 152 in late July, seeking advice about getting union representation. After some discussion, the workers decided the best course of action was to demand union recognition themselves. Following the labor peace agreement, the workers organized via card check.
UFCW Local 152 will continue to meet with the workers to draft contract proposals, and schedule bargaining dates with the company to negotiate a first union contract.
Over the last two years, cannabis workers in New Jersey have been joining UFCW Local 152 for a better life. In addition to the workers at The Healing Side, UFCW Local 152 also represents cannabis workers at Design 710 in Atlantic city; The Botanist in Egg Harbor Township and Atlantic City, which became the local’s first unionized cannabis facility with the inception of their first contract; MPX/iAnthus grow facility in Pleasantville; MPX/iAnthus dispensary in Atlantic City; and Columbia Care Cannabist facility in Vineland.
