Workers at the Bob’s Discount Furniture store in North Dartmouth, Mass., voted to join UFCW Local 328 on March 15.
The 18 workers, who are employed as guest experience specialists, joined our union family because they were concerned about workplace issues such as changes to the bonus structure and wanted a voice in the workplace. They also wanted the same benefits as their unionized colleagues at the Bob’s Discount Furniture store in Attleboro, who joined UFCW Local 328 in 2014.
“To protect our jobs and futures from endless changes, we must protect ourselves with a contract,” said Karen Coyne, who works at Bob’s Discount Furniture in North Dartmouth.
UFCW Local 328’s campaign to organize these workers included worksite visits, support from other locals that represent Bob’s Discount Furniture members, as well as from the Bob’s Discount Furniture workers in Attleboro. This organizing win is a catalyst for workers at Bob’s Discount Furniture stores in Michigan and New York who have filed for union elections with UFCW Locals 876 and 888.
