UFCW’s Education Benefits will take you from GED to College to career
In addition to the protections offered by having a union contract, UFCW membership also comes with access to a wide range of other ways to save money and plan for your future.
Every UFCW member can take GED classes for free.
UFCW members can take General Equivalency Diploma (GED) classes for free through Essential GED. This program offers a customized learning plan, so that you’ll be able to successfully prepare yourself to pass the GED test, regardless of when you last went to school.
This program also allows you to study at your own pace – all classes are self-guided and can be completed from your mobile device.

This amazing benefit makes it possible for UFCW members and their families to earn an Associate Degree online through Eastern Gateway Community College (EGCC) with no out-of-pocket costs or need for loans.
The UFCW’s Free College Benefit is designed to help UFCW members and their families balance work and home life. You can attend school part-time or full-time – whichever fits your schedule. All you need to get started is a high school degree or GED, and there are no entrance exams to worry about.

In partnership with Central State University, UFCW makes it possible for you and your family members to earn a bachelor’s degree completely online.
Bachelor’s degrees offered:
- Teacher Education
- Business Administration
- Criminal Justice
- Interdisciplinary Studies in Humanities
Students who have earned an Associate Degree or at least 60 credits with a 2.2 GPA or better in the field of study. Students needing pre-requisite classes or to boost their GPA can enroll in the Free College pathway programs with Eastern Gateway Community College.

Workforce essentials
This program includes different courses that will help you succeed in today’s workforce. From writing a good resume to making a good impression during an interview, students will be equipped with the resources they need to find their dream job.
Additional courses include financial and computer literacy – these are aimed to equip students with the necessary skills for a stable future and more professional opportunities.

UFCW offers a free foreign language program for its members. These online classes build on four conversational skills necessary to fully learn a new language: vocabulary, pronunciation, grammar and culture.
