UFCW/ICWUC is the Chemical Workers’ Union.

The UFCW has within it a special counsel called the International Chemical Workers Union Council (ICWUC) that serves the hardworking men and women of the chemical industry. The ICWUC has a proud history of improving on-the-job safety and negotiating strong contracts that provide our members in the chemical industry with the better wages and benefits they have earned and deserve.

As the international chemical workers union, we fight for better wages and safe workplaces for our members.

Workers in this industry are routinely exposed to hazards on the job, including the potential for inhaling toxic fumes and the possibility of fires or explosions that cause serious injury and even death.

In addition to incredible safety programs, our union’s chemical workers earn the best wages in the industry and enjoy important benefits like retirement and job security. Union members earn significantly better wages and benefits than nonunion workers across industries. On average, union workers’ wages are 22 percent higher than their nonunion counterparts.

Our chemical workers are trained experts.

The ICWUC’s Center for Workers’ Health and Safety Education, which is located in Cincinnati, Ohio, provides training for members in the chemical industry. Some if the classes are designed to teach union staff how to identify and respond to chemical hazards, and class participants learn about hazardous chemicals, respiratory protection, personal protective equipment, toxicology, and OSHA regulations. In addition to training chemical workers, the center has also trained workers in diverse array of industries, including food services and health care. The ICWUC also lobbies for laws and regulations that ensure workers have a safe workplace.

Our union contracts protect us and our jobs.

Our union stops unfair treatment dead in its tracks. With our just cause discipline system, we don’t have to worry about being fired without a good reason — but if managers try to abuse their power, we can hold them to the letter of our contracts and make sure our jobs are secure.

And with our seniority system, experience and dedication are all you need to make the most of your job, cutting out both favoritism and discrimination from the equation.
